Sion Resources is a Buckinghamshire New University (BNU) approved security training contractor. With our specialist training team comprising former Police Service of Northern Ireland Close Protection Unit and Counter Terrorist instructors, Sion has developed a new industry bench mark in security and tactical training licensed and recognized by the Security Industry Authority of the United Kingdom.

Sion's instructors have an unprecedented wealth of experience and expertise in the fields of close protection and urban counter terrorism operations. With their extensive knowledge the Sion team have devised and implemented the only SIA Close Protection course that is directly engineered towards personnel operating with clients at high risk from terrorist threat.

Our comprehensive course will train and prepare close protection operators for the demanding field of tier 1 (high risk) security operations. The course is designed to take our students to the limits of their physical and mental abilities, ensuring that those who graduate are among the best trained operators in the field today.

With the further introduction of specialist speakers from the unique fields of intelligence and counter terrorism candidates will benefit from a wide spectrum of experience and knowledge based instruction ensuring that with the full support of BNU and the SIA, our candidates will receive the most in-depth, up to date and comprehensive training available today.

On completion of the course, graduates will gain a Level 3 Certificate in Close Protection Operations and 15 of the 20 credits towards the Buckingham New University Foundation Degree in Protective Security.

Graduates will also benefit from the Sion Resources placement programme. Using its unique position within the British Association of Private Security Companies (BAPSC), and the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) Sion's team will work with course graduates on seeking operational positions within its own and other member's organisations. Title: Close Protection Operations 150 Hours Guided Learning Course
Duration: 15 Days
Our 15 day (150 hour) Level 3 Certificate in Close Protection Operations is designed to be the most integral, engaging and rewarding course of its kind, covering all aspects of close protection operations, including:

  • Introduction to the roles and responsibilities of the close protection operative
  • Threat and risk assessment
  • Surveillance awareness
  • Operational planning
  • Law and legislation
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Personal safety training

  • Reconnaissance
  • Close protection foot techniques route selection
  • Use of close protection vehicle techniques

Title: Close Protection Operations 24 Hour Guided Learning Course
Duration: 3 Days
Our 24 hour course is designed to deliver a comprehensive package helping those with the relevant experience reach the required standard to obtain their Security Industry Authority (SIA) Close Protection licence. Applicants, who have completed the formal close protection training courses listed below or possibly other international law enforcement or military courses since January 2002 and have remained in an operational role, will be eligible for this course.

  1. Special Air Service Regiment Body Guard Course
  2. Royal Military Police Protection Course
  3. Metropolitan Police Royalty Protection/ Special Branch Protection Course
  4. Police National Close Protection Course including Northern Ireland

This course covers aspects such as:

  • Law and legislation
  • Law and legislation
  • Communication and conflict management
  • Management skills
  • Briefing skills including the use of I.T.
  • Incident and dilemmas
  • Threat and risk assessment

Candidates on both courses are rigorously assessed by the training team and will be required to complete a Security Industry Authority (SIA) written exam and practical 'live' assessment, invigilated by the awarding body of the course, Buckinghamshire New University.

Proof of previous security/close protection qualifications may be required.
